Farmers need a steady and accessible supply chain in order to maintain output. Please stand with U.S. farmers and consider signing the below petition to Congress to help ensure unnecessary duties don’t hurt American farmers.
U.S. farmers are at risk of losing access to critically important phosphate fertilizers, which could limit supply, increase costs and add uncertainty amidst what is already a long-term agricultural downturn.
In June, the Mosaic Company filed a petition seeking the imposition of duties on some of its competitors’ products. The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that duties of 19.97% will be imposed on Moroccan phosphate fertilizers.
Phosphate fertilizers are an indispensable input for farmers for producing corn, soybeans, cotton, wheat, fruits and vegetables, and other crops. Levying a duty on these imports will reduce the supply of phosphate fertilizers available in the U.S., increasing costs and potentially lowering crop yields and reducing agricultural production — putting U.S. farmers at a disadvantage in world markets.
A final decision is due by April 1. Please Stand with U.S. farmers and urge the U.S. government to deny the Mosaic petition and reject the imposition of countervailing duties. Farmers and U.S. agriculture as a whole will only suffer if one company is handed a near-monopoly on these essential products.
